Spring wedding season is over and we have a few weeks to breathe before summer weddings begin. There are a few recurring questions that I get from brides about wedding flowers. I thought it might be helpful if I provided a few answers to these common questions.
What info do I need to have before meeting with a wedding florist?
The most important info to have is your color palette. A florist needs to have any idea of your color preferences in order to give your wedding the warmth that reflects your individuality. Some engaged couples want neutral colors, some prefer brighter flowers, others prefer a mix. If we know what direction you want to go with color we can generally help guide you on the the overall design style for the wedding flowers.
Do I need to know which flowers I want to use in my wedding?
It is helpful to know if you have a favorite flower or two but it isn’t absolutely necessary. Some preferred flowers could be out of season. An experienced wedding florist will find other flowers in similar shapes and colors that match your aesthetic. Preferred flowers could also be out of couple’s budget, so we can make excellent suggestions for different options that won’t break the bank. We can also suggest flowers you may have never heard of. This option can bring a unique style to your wedding because many guests may be seeing this flower for the first time too.
Do I need to know how I want the bouquets and centerpieces to look?
You don’t need to have exact ideas about the design. Give the florist your overall vision. Tell them how you want the guests to feel at the end of the wedding. Once we understand your personal style we can guide you through the process. Bringing photos is also very helpful. Most brides are on Pinterest these days so we actually expect to get a link to their boards. (You can view our Pinterest page at www.pinterest.com/jrflowersweddings). It’s even better for a wedding florist if you give them creative freedom. We can really showcase designs that up the “wow” factor for you and your guests on your beautiful wedding day.
Why do wedding flowers cost so much?
Wedding flowers are sourced from all over the world or sometimes from local flower farms. They go through quite a process from growing on the farm to harvest, storage and finally to your florist. Once we receive them they go through stem and leaf removal, sorting, and a rehydration process. All of this occurs before we can begin the actual design. High quality flowers are expensive sometimes, there is no doubt about that. Talk to your wedding florist about your budget concerns. If you find another florist that claims they can give you the same design for much less, please beware. They are likely not using the same quality products that we use and may not deliver what you expected.
